Ready For Google’s First Mobile Index? How Will It Impact Your Business?
Have you heard about Google’s First Mobile Index?
Yes, they are launching a new version of their search targeted specifically for mobile users/searchers.
How can this index impact your online business?
You have thriving business website with lot of traffic coming in via Google search (both desktop and mobile daily). More traffic = More sales. Great show! One catch though – yours is one of those 2007 developed websites (rich on age) optimized for desktop viewers. Till date, Google indexed such websites on their mobile search results as well. Its all changing after this new index kicks in.
You may still enjoy high rankings on desktop search but your mobile searches will take a massive hit as Google will push you down or even out of their index for not being mobile ready! Also, since mobile searches are growing by the day, this loss could be enormous and critically fatal for your online business.
You have two versions of your website. One for desktop and one for mobile. Technically, you may not lose much traction owing to different sites ranked on two separate versions of search. However, its the browser that determines what version to show up based on device it is being opened from not the search engine. Hence, the search engine will only index one version in its index leading to confusion for itself and for users.
However somewhere down the line, Google Webmaster (now Google Console) may be updated at some stage to tell Google if there are two versions of the site to avoid this confusion.)
What then is the best scenario and solution?
**** RESPONSIVE Design ****
Responsive design – one site that adapts automatically to all devices is the best solution to overcome this issue.
