First if he is doing Google paid ads, they are effective let me be very clear about it. Of-course they need to be planned that way.
To answer the 2nd part of the question is there a free service from Google?
95 % of Google is free. It’s only the advertising part of it which is paid.
You can get your
•Website on Google search for free,
•Google My Business Profile for free
•YouTube account for free
•Gmail for free.
The problem is using these platforms effectively. These are made by Google.
If used effectively, you will have to spend very less on the paid ads.
If you get your organic rankings well, build your website, social media presence, push out the content, read your customer, understand and deliver on their expectations.
You will automatically see your site starts ranking well on Google Organic search which will lead to more business and there is no need to worry too much about paying on the Adwords.
With Adwords, we mainly identify a set of keywords that we want to target and create some ad copy, put in the budget, pay per click and then put in some xyz budget and test out what happens. Has the keyword research been done correctly? Are they relevant ? This is based on our perception of what we feel the customer will search.
Whereas what customer is actually searching maybe absolutely different. This is one of the major drawbacks that companies face when they run paid campaigns on their own. This is very important. Once that happens you will see what you invest in will automatically pay for itself.
It is a very good platform, if planned well. Otherwise you could burn lot of cash.
So plan well and use Google Ads effectively. As for the rest everything is free. Again it has to be planned well.

From what I know, you receive either INR 2K/- or 1K/- or 3K/- coupons in your e-mail box saying, you can use as Google Adwords credit and start your ads running.
This is Google’s advertising and their way of making money. Because to get that INR 2K/- coupon you have to put 5K/- into Google’s account and then you can avail that credit. Please remember this.
This is Google’s way of attracting new users which is good and just fair. But then availing that credit needs a strategy, you just cannot say I have got INR 2K/- free credit, so it’s just waste and test it. Let’s not do that.
Even if you have a free credit make sure you go with a plan. That is very important and that’s where I think you need help. If you have the background with Google Adwords, if you have run campaigns in the past well, please go ahead.
If you don’t have, you can always take help. That will be very important, because then you will keep on putting the money and if you don’t see returns then you feel disappointed. So we want to make sure that the platform works for you and then again reiterate. This platform works if managed well.

Can these free Google platforms be self-managed at the business end or again do we need an expert where it is done in a planned manner?
This is again from business to business. If the management on their own can manage it, nothing like it. In fact that would be my advice number one to most businesses, especially growing ones to do it yourself because that will help you learn lot of things.
If you don’t have time, too busy, want to focus on core business, else have a firm, hire anyone whom you feel comfortable with.

So that’s completely a business call. Definitely go with a plan. Don’t just start to create a website, social presence. Go with the plan and stick to it for sufficient period of time 8 to 10 months. Then check and evaluate how it’s going to work for you. Same with Adwords as well. Again with Adwords, you don’t have to keep on doing it, try to make sure you’re making it seasonal or you are making it when it’s the right time.
