As A Small Business, Should I Focus On Sales Or Branding?
Interesting and Critical Customer Questions and Thoughts from Our Marketing & Sales Campaigns answered by Amod Inamdar.
In terms of marketing, should a small businesses focus on sales or marketing?
Let’s understand this SALES = STABLITY & BRANDING = SUSTANABLITY.
First let’s understand difference between two, as a small business STABILITY is very important to run day to day function, you need cash to run the show.
However as a small business if you don’t look at SUSTAINABILITY part, now what I mean by SUSTAINABILITY is to stay relevant in the market, the longer you are relevant in the market you will grow, and otherwise you will keep running the show in day to day basis.
Most businesses fall into this trap, that is why they keep pushing sales and there is no growth.
That’s why; most businesses in their VISION document must have BRANDING as a key component.
Question: But what about start-ups, for them at initial stages to get that growth, sales is the initial focus? Due to limitations in resources & funding how they should go about BRANDING?
For them they can actually stage it, they should’nt eliminate that. Most business make that mistake , they don’t have BRANDING in that plan, they feel that once they see that growth then can look at BRANDING. But let you tell you growth will never happen unless branding is done.
So, in the vision plan they can stage it, set up a milestone for e.g. generate this no.of sales then we can start with branding activity that should be the plan. Once that milestone is hit start with branding, but it should be part of your vision plan.
So to repeat once again:
SALES = STABLITY & BRANDING = SUSTANABLITY.
